Roddenberry Syrup Brand
The Roddenberry family began making syrup in Cairo, Georgia in 1889. They became so famous in Cairo, that the high school athletic teams are known as the Syrupmakers. Dean Specialty Foods purchased and now owns the brand.

Pancake Syrup VS Real Maple Syrup
Real maple syrup comes from maple tree sap that is boiled down to remove the water and concentrate the sugar. As the sap is boiled down it caramelizes and turns into the savory maple syrup that we love. Collecting the genuine article takes time and the season itself is limited, so you can see why the price is much higher.

Pancake syrup on the other hand, is mostly high fructose corn syrup that is flavored to taste like maple syrup. Pancake syrup is much cheaper than real maple syrup and in fact outsells the real stuff by a wide margin.
